My jouney into Film Making and my First Movie “Ika Lokunrin”- Tolulope Labinjoh shares her story

Born in Lagos state, Nigeria. Attended University of Ibadan, studied law. Tolulope Labinjoh began her Nollywood career around 2006, initially working behind the scenes and auditioning while still a student. Her debut film is often cited as ” Ika Lokurin,” though her major breakthrough came through the movie ‘Tara’, which was released in 2012.

Tolulope Labinjoh combined her early acting roles with university education, making it a challenging start. “I have experience moments of doubt. Yes; many times. Doubt is inevitable. But acting became an outlet for me. It allowed me to learn, question myself, and grow.”

Speaking about her first movie ‘Ika Lokunrin’, Tolulope Labinjoh said her movies are it is a reflection of Nigerian life, culture, and identity. The industry thrives on relatable stories: family drama, romance, comedy, politics, and history, that capture the realities of everyday Nigerians.

She said; “Every actor’s journey begins with self-discovery. Acting is not just about reciting lines, it is about interpreting characters, expressing emotions, and bringing a script to life.

Start by joining drama groups in school, church, or your local community. These platforms allow you to practice voice projection, body language, and stage presence. The more you perform, the more confident you become in embodying different roles.”

‘Ika Lokunrin’ had characters like, Tolulope Labinjoh the producer, Faithia Balogun, Funsho Adesho Adeolu, and Taiwo Hassan (Ogogo).
