In a dramatic turn of events, a group of kidnappers was arrested after making a critical mistake—using their own phone number to call a POS vendor while negotiating a ransom payment.
The ordeal began when the suspects kidnapped a victim and demanded a ransom, consistently using the victim’s phone to make their calls.
However, in a careless moment, they accidentally used their own number to contact a POS vendor, setting off a chain of events that led to their capture.
A private investigator and twitter user, Sango Olukoso, acting on intelligence, tracked down the POS vendor and instructed him to inform the kidnappers that the ransom had been successfully paid.
Anticipating that the criminals would attempt to withdraw the money in cash, the investigators waited for their next move.
Instead of appearing in person, the kidnappers provided another POS account located in Ijanikin for the transaction.
The investigator acted as fast as he fah and tracked down the second POS vendor, who was also directed to inform the kidnappers that the funds had been transferred.
In a major blunder that defined the move, the criminals again used their personal phone number to confirm the transaction—leading authorities straight to their hideout in a bushy area in Ijanikin, Lagos state.
The victim was successfully rescued, the kidnappers were arrested and the oldest of the gang was discovered to be 30 years of age.
