A doctor at Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu branch, has been charged before a Nairobi court with attempted murder of his wife and her alleged secret lover.
Patrick Eshiwani Amok appeared before Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi at Milimani Law Courts on Friday, November 11, where he faced charges of attempted murder.
According to the charge sheet, Amok is accused that: “on diverse dates between August 19 and September 3, 2015, within the Republic of Kenya jointly with others not before court conspired one Catherine Njogi Kamau.”
He further denied another count of attempted murder where on the same date it is alleged that he conspired to execute Kennedy Ontiriah Momanyi, the alleged secret lover of his wife. Momanyi is also a medical doctor.
Investigations conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) show that Dr Amok had planned to kill his wife Njogi who is also a medical practitioner(nurse at the said hospital) and her alleged lover.
On December 10, 2016, police officers from Kisumu got some information that Doctor Amok was planning to kill his ex-wife and her alleged lover.
The suspect had allegedly hired two sets of hitmen to execute the job for him.
Amok is said to have paid more than Ksh500,000 to have the wife and her new lover killed. One of the hitmen the name Michael Ogola was exposed to the officers by an informer.
Upon interrogation, the informer told police officers that he was told by one of his friends that Dr Amok had contracted him to kill his wife and her alleged secret lover, claiming that the secret lover had snatched his wife.
The informer further said that Amok organised a meeting where they negotiated a price of Ksh1 million for the job.
The figure was later bargained to Ksh700,000 and a down payment of Ksh 400,000 was made at a restaurant within Milimani Area in Kisumu.
“The hitmen namely Micheal Ogola, Meshack Magena and Micheal Oyombe shared the amount amongst themselves and Amok sent an image of his wife to them for identification through WhatsApp. It was agreed the balance of Ksh300,000 was to be paid on the execution of the two murder schemes,” the police investigating report states.
For ease of tracing and identification of the victims, Dr Amok is also said to have sent photographs of his residence and his wife’s motor vehicle.
Later the police summoned Amok for interrogation where he revealed to the police that he was married to Njogi and they have two children.
