At least nine people have been killed and several others injured following an attack by armed bandits on Layin Danauta in Kuyello village, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
A traditional ruler in Birnin Gwari, who confirmed the incident Friday, said the attack occurred on Thursday evening when the gunmen invaded the community in large numbers.
He said the assailants, wielding high-calibre weapons, opened fire on residents, killing nine people on the spot, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
According to him, the bandits also kidnapped an unspecified number of villagers and destroyed several properties before fleeing into the bush.
He added that the corpses of the victims were being prepared for burial in accordance with Islamic rites, while the injured are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
The incident comes after several months of a peace deal between local authorities and bandit groups operating in the Birnin Gwari area.
