Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have dislodged several bandits’ hideouts and recovered ammunition and a motorcycle during clearance operations in Takum and Ussa Local Government Areas of Taraba State.
The operation, conducted under Operation Lafiya Nakowa, was part of ongoing efforts to flush out hibernating bandits and other criminal elements across the state.
A statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Lt. Oni Olubodunde, on Monday in Jalingo, said the operation followed credible intelligence on bandits’ activities around Tarhembe, Tornyi, TY Farm, and Kando in Tati, Takum LGA, as well as reports of farmland destruction in Ussa LGA.
According to the statement, on Oct. 5, troops simultaneously launched clearance operations in the affected areas.
“Team A advanced into Tarhembe and Tornyi, where contact was made with bandits. The troops’ superior firepower forced the criminals to flee into the forest.
“During exploitation, troops recovered four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, and one motorcycle,” the statement said.
It added that Team B conducted operations within Lissam in Ussa LGA through Kutukok, Konkan, Fank Utaih, Kijwu, Kutukwo, Kwesati, and Alaha, where several suspected bandits’ camps were cleared and destroyed without resistance.
The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their resilience and professionalism during the operation.
He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to facilitate ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability across the state.
Uwa said the clearance operations had further disrupted the activities of criminal elements, denied them freedom of action, and reassured local communities of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
