The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has increased its petrol pump price to ₦1,405 per litre, despite the controversy surrounding the Federal Government’s proposed fuel discount.

The latest adjustment represents a ₦35 increase from the previous price of ₦1,370 per litre.

Reports on Friday indicated that the new price had taken effect at NNPC filling stations. Several pump attendants, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the company announced the price increase on Thursday before implementing it on Friday.

NNPC has yet to explain the reason for the adjustment.

The increase comes amid questions over the proposed petrol discount announced by the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele.
