Troops respond to gunfire in Plateau, rescue man shot during dispute among suspected illegal miners

Troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace, have responded to a reported gunfire incident at Ganadaji Community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, where a dispute among suspected illegal miners reportedly turned violent.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops were deployed at about 8:10 p.m. on July 15 following reports of gunshots in the community.

According to the sources, on arrival at the location, the troops discovered that the incident stemmed from a disagreement among suspected illegal miners over the sharing of mining proceeds.

The troops found one victim, identified as Dadun Daniel, who had sustained a gunshot wound, while the other suspects fled the scene upon sighting the security personnel.

The injured victim was evacuated to the General Hospital, Barkin Ladi, where he is receiving medical treatment.

Military sources said troops have commenced efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects as investigations into the incident continue.

The incident highlights the growing security concerns associated with illegal mining activities, which have increasingly been linked to violent disputes and other criminal activities in parts of Plateau State.
