Troops foil bandits’ att@ck on village in Sokoto

The troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have foiled an attempted attack by armed bandits on Lugu village in Wurno Local Government Area of the state.

Sources said that the incident occurred on Thursday at about 12:15 a.m., when a large number of bandits armed with sophisticated weapons invaded Lugu, a remote hamlet under the Kwargaba district of Wurno LGA.

The attackers reportedly shot sporadically, causing panic among residents of the area.

On receipt of the report, the troops in collaboration with the police were swiftly deployed to the scene.

Security sources said a gun duel ensued between the joint security team and the bandits, which lasted for some time.

The bandits were eventually overpowered and forced to withdraw, fleeing into a nearby forest.

Sources said joint security forces were currently combing the surrounding bushes in a bid to arrest the fleeing suspects, while confidence-building patrols had been intensified in the area to reassure residents.
