According to the man’s account, on Friday, 16 October 2026, Mmesoma took a motorcycle ride to her ex-boyfriend’s house. When she arrived, she called him, and he told her he was coming. She then collected the motorcycle rider’s phone number and told him to return and pick her up in a few minutes. She flashed the rider’s number, which he saved.
Two days later, on Sunday, the suspect, Chima, reportedly appeared at a popular market, telling someone that they were looking for his girlfriend. He claimed that when he travelled to Benin weeks earlier, he was accused of stealing gold worth ₦18 million, suggesting that the people involved might have kidn@pped his girlfriend.
He reportedly went to the local security commander to explain the situation. The commander questioned him, asking whether anyone had accused him of k!ll!ng the girl. When Chima answered no, the commander reportedly asked why he was bothering himself.
On Tuesday, the commander and Chima went to the police station to make an entry. Following police interrogation, Mmesoma’s picture began circulating across social media platforms as people searched for her.
When the motorcycle rider saw her picture, he reportedly told his fellow riders that he had taken the young woman to a house on Friday. Concerned about her disappearance, the riders informed the commander, who then took the rider to the police.
The police subsequently obtained a search warrant. By then, Chima was already in detention.
The motorcycle rider led them to the location where he had dropped Mmesoma off on Friday. Upon arriving at the house, they reportedly found a broken phone and a SIM card along the way. The SIM card was identified as Mmesoma’s, and the suspect subsequently confessed.
