Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) Director-General Jide Idris stated that the 2027 general elections could be considered for postponement only if the current Ebola outbreak spreads widely enough to become a severe public health crisis.
Idris clarified during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today that there is no need for a postponement at this time, and noted that deciding election timelines is not within his direct authority
Health authorities are tracking confirmed and suspected Ebola cases (including around 53 primary contacts under monitoring in connection with cases in the FCT and Rivers State), while emphasizing that public health management is not being used as a political tool.
