The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced the arrest of nine suspects in Nigeria as part of its global crackdown on internet fraud networks under Operation Blackout.

FBI Director Kash Patel disclosed on Sunday that the operation in Nigeria resulted in the seizure of 53 electronic devices, while $11 million in funds potentially subject to freezing was identified across multiple countries.

Patel commended Nigerian law enforcement agencies and their partners in the United Kingdom for their cooperation in the operation.

He said the crackdown targets international cybercrime networks accused of defrauding victims and stealing their life savings.

The investigation forms part of the FBI’s wider efforts to disrupt international scam networks and bring those responsible to justice.
