The family of Tawakalitu Morenikeji Oyedeji, a Nigerian woman reportedly trafficked to Baghdad, Iraq, has appealed to the Federal Government to secure her safety and facilitate her return home following her father’s death.
According to SaharaReporters, the family alleged that her employer, identified as Engineer Asma, collected $800 from Tawakalitu after promising to arrange a flight ticket to Nigeria. She reportedly paid an initial $400 before being asked to pay another $400 the following day.
Her employer also allegedly withheld her August and September salaries, totalling $500, bringing the amount involved to $1,300.
The family said Tawakalitu had worked for about 16 months under a two-year employment contract when she requested to return home after her father became seriously ill. He subsequently d+ed on October 2, leaving her distressed over her inability to support his treatment.
