MTN suspends airtime, data loan services following new FCCPC rules

MTN Nigeria has temporarily suspended its airtime and data lending service, Xtratime, following new regulatory requirements introduced by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

The telecom company disclosed this in a corporate filing to the Nigerian Exchange Limited on Thursday, stating that the decision was connected to the implementation of the FCCPC’s Digital, Electronic, Online or Non-Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations, 2025.

Xtratime allows eligible subscribers to borrow airtime or data and repay during their next recharge. The service has remained popular among prepaid customers across the country.
