The National Agency for Food and Dr¥g Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized counterfeit packaging materials worth over ₦200 million and sealed five shops at Old Court Road Market in Aba, Abia State, over suspected production and supply of packaging materials for f@ke alc%h%lic beverages and other products.
The operation, conducted by NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate following credible intelligence, uncovered counterfeit labels, corks and packaging materials bearing brands including Jameson, Glenfiddich, Four Cousins, Lord’s Dry Gin, Imperial Blue, Goya Oil, Chelsea, Squadron and Seaman’s Aromatic Schnapps.
A NAFDAC official described the discovery as alarming, saying some materials were so sophisticated that even original brand owners might struggle to distinguish them from genuine products.
