Gunmen kill 42, abduct children in Niger communities

No fewer than 42 persons have been killed by suspected terrorists in renewed attacks on communities in Agwarra and Borgu Local Government Areas of Niger State, with several residents, including children, abducted.

Zagazola gathered that the gunmen had been attacking villages in Agwarra LGA for more than a week, allegedly without resistance.

According to the sources, the assailants killed 37 people in Kasuwa Daji village near Papiri community and five others in Kaima village.

They also reportedly abducted an unspecified number of persons, including pupils and students of St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools, Papiri, in Agwarra LGA.

“They killed 37 people in Kasuwa Daji near Papiri, another five in Kaima village, and abducted many people including children. Some of these children are students of the same schools,” sources said.

Another source said the attackers wreaked havoc on several communities before retreating into the forest with their captives.
