A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Adamu Garba has expressed his disappointment at the focus some Nigerians are giving ‘paper qualifications’.
This statement came in the wake of a barrage of criticisms and abuses directed at the incumbent president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu over controversies hovering around the authenticity of his degree certificate from Chicago State University.
He went on to call on Nigerians to desist from joining the leader of the CSU certificate forgery charge, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in a battle to tarnish the image of the country and her president.
He made known these concerns in a lengthy Twitter post on Friday.
“If not for some Nigerians that still believes in paper qualifications as against applied practices, why would some certificate become a subject of discourse on a leader like President Tinubu who is associated with proven track records?
“Nigeria is perhaps the last country on the planet that is still hanging on to these vestiges of colonialism by still handing around paper qualifications in this 21st century, 4th industrial world of practical applications.
“Tinubu himself should be a University worthy of studies. How many people has he helped built to greatness and made them achieve their full potential? How many institutions has he created decades ago and are still sustained till today? How many important positive footprints has he put on the ground worthy of PhD thesis?
“There is no human without a negative past. Only Almighty God is perfect. But there are greater things President Tinubu achieved in his life that are worthy of note.
“Instead of the young people focuses on his good side, learn valuable lessons and strive to surpass him on his excellent part while avoiding his mistakes, Some gullible ones amongst us are being deceived to participate in this obvious ego-driven emotional games that do us more harm than good.
“We should endeavor to express positive energy towards our country. We should pay attention to learning and planning for the future of our country after the likes of Tinubu, Atiku, Obi and Kwankwaso etc are long gone.
“The two major elephants: Tinubu and Atiku are fighting purely on ego. They have achieved practically everything in their lives. Both are rich, famous, one was a Governor and Vice President, the other was a Governor and now a President.
“They are indeed giant elephants and won’t feel the pain of any fight amongst them. It is us on the grass that will suffer and it is our future and the future of our country that we condemn. We must not encourage them to continue.
“De-marketing our democratically elected President is tarnishing the image of our country and by extension, the citizens. We must not encourage that.
“Against all odds, we must make note that we have a country that should be here for the next thousands of years and we have a duty to preserve its identity, it’s image and it’s value long after the current leaders are no more. We must not be dragged into joining the issue that will become a hangover on our future development as a country.
“Granted, the show was put up and everyone, rightly or wrongly participated in the show. All these should be over by now. Let’s allow governance to take precedence over unnecessary distractions from the so-called certificate saga.
“Whatever good President Tinubu did or will do will remain with Nigerians long after him. But if we let the negative forces drag us to slow down the process of governance, the President will still be President and we will be the ones losing out.
“Let the love of our country be stronger than everything else, including ourselves, aside from God. We are patriots and we should live for Nigeria, grow Nigeria, protect Nigeria and if necessary, die for Nigeria.
“Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it’s patriots and leaders. Jumaat Mubarak to you all.
