Nollywood actress Bimpe Akintunde has addressed the challenges of being a single parent, emphasizing the huge toll it can take on women.
During an interview with Biola Bayo on her podcast, Talk To B, Akintunde shared her view, stating that single parenthood is not a situation anyone hopes for, but rather a circumstance that can arise unexpectedly.
She expressed that single motherhood is not something anyone desires, but circumstances sometimes lead to it, citing menβs natural inclination towards polygamy.
Bimpe Akintunde urged men to take responsibility when they impregnate a woman and become part of the family.
βI keep telling people that being a single mom is not what anyone prays for; there is nothing that kills a woman faster than single parenting. Recently, a lot of people donβt care; we have surrogate mothers, they wonβt even show you their husband, they will just show you their child. Iβm thankful for my journey because if hadnβt given birth 8 years ago, I may single be childless. Any man that puts a child in a woman must take responsibility even if youβre drunk while doing it.β
She further highlighted how she struggled all by herself to raise her child alone, sold her car and still could not cope while her baby daddy had yet to claim the child.
Bimpe revealed that she had to seek public help as a single mother from a foundation when she won relief items that helped her through.
βIf not for families, siblings, and others, I wouldnβt have scaled through that phase,β she added.
