A video featuring a group of passengers who boarded a Benue Links bus from Makurdi to Lagos and escaped an attack by bandits has been circulating on the internet today.
In the video, the men were seen crouched in a bush, speaking in hushed tones to a man holding a camera and narrating their ordeal.
According to them, they were shot at by bandits between the Ajaokuta steel plant and Okene. They ran into the bush to take cover pending when the gun-wielding men would leave their path.
Nigerian highways cannot be said to be very unsafe, but those who ply the roads leave their safety to fate as there is basically no hope for anyone who is threatened by nonstate actors who frequently attack travelers on Nigerian roads, killing and kidnapping as they see fit.
