Umar Abdullahi Ganduje of the APC filed a petition challenging the victory of Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe of the NNPP, who won the Rimin Gado/Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Federal House of Representatives Election held on March 25, 2023.
However, the National/State House of Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal in Kano dismissed it on Tuesday.
Recall that Abba Umar Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had filed a petition to challenge the election of Abdulkadir-Jobe of the NNPP as a member representing the Rimin Gado, Dawakin Tofa, and Tofa Constituency on February 25, 2023.
He was the son of the former governor of Kano State.
Mr. Abdulgafar Murtala, the petitioner’s attorney, sought the court to declare Umar the victor and to nullify the INEC declaration that had previously declared Jobe the winner.
He claimed that there were anomalies, excessive voting, and a violation of the Electoral Act during the Rimin Gado, Dawakin Tofa, and Tofa Constituency election.
However, during the hearing, the attorneys for the NNPP and Jobe urged the court to reject the case, pointing out that the election was conducted in compliance with the 2022 electoral statute.
The three-judge panel dismissed the case for lack of substance in its ruling. The tribunal further asserted that the petitioner had not provided enough proof to back up the made claim.
In this regard, the tribunal granted the respondents, jointly and severally, the sum of N200,000.
