On Friday, President Bola Tinubu commended his Senegalese counterpart, Macky Sall, for deciding not to run for a third term after his term ended.
He claimed Sall’s choice was proof that the Senegalese president prioritised the interests of his country before personal gain and set a positive example for West Africa, which had recently seen an undemocratic regime change.
“The decision of President Mack Sall that he will abide by the constitutional term of office and not offer himself for a third term in Senegal is heart-warming,” President Bola Tinubu said in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communication and Strategy, Dele Alake.
Senegal has been rocked by protests in recent weeks as a result of rumours that President Sall, whose second term ends in 2024, wants to run for a third term.
