Josep Tapiró i Baró / José Tapiró y Baró (1836 – 1913) was a leading Spanish Orientalist painter who lived for much of his life in Tangiers, Morocco.
This prolific and extraordinary artist produced a large, almost scientific corpus of paintings of life in Morocco, most known for his busts and half-length portraits of traditional characters, the portraits of brides and scenes that portray religious traditions, holy men, Gnawa and Haratin, as well as everyday life, almost unmatched in their quality.
