Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has said neighbouring Burkina Faso’s invitation of Russian Mercenaries in the Northern Borders of Ghana as very disturbing.
While stating during a briefing with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, he described the development as a very distressing and worrying situation as the Ghanaians have consistently condemned the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
This is coming as many west African states grow increasingly concerned about the spread of jihadist violence from the Sahel region.
He said he understood that the Wagner group had been offered a mine in southern Burkina Faso as a form of payment for services – presumably fighting Islamist miliCtants.
While speaking on the dangerous proliferation of coups in West Africa, Nana added that there were the enemies of democracy working hard in the region.
It was a call for people to focus on what Ghana sees as the combined threats of jihadist violence, coups and Russian interference, he stated categorically.
