The Pharmacy council of Nigeria (PCN) has revealed that it had shut down a total of 19,059 medical centres from 2018 til date.
This was said by the registrar of the council, Pharm Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed, who spoke on Saturday during the presentation of the gazetted PCN (Establishment) Act 2022 in Abuja.
He mentioned that since 2018, they have visited 27,262 medical facilities in Nigeria, and 19,059 of them are found wanting and shut down.

Pharm Ibrahim also broke down the stats saying that out of the closed-down facilities, 1,780 of them were sealed because they operate as illegal pharmaceutical stores, while 16,502 are found wanting because of sales of patent medicine.
He also went ahead to say that 110 persons have been arrested since the crackdown on illegal pharmaceutical establishments, and they are all in different stages of legal prosecutions.
