World number 1, Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the 2023 Shanghai Masters 1000, the penultimate ATP Masters 1000 event of the season after enduring a heavily packed schedule in recent weeks, which saw him defeat Daniil Medvedev to win the 2023 US OPEN Grand Slam tournament and also defeat Carlos Alcaraz to win the Cincinnati Open..
Following his monumental victory at Flushing Meadows which is the US OPEN Grand Slam, many wondered if Djokovic would compete at the ATP Davis Cup Finals Group Stage for Team Serbia, which took place from September 12-17. Several other big names had already withdrawn, such as Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Matteo Berrettini.
However, the Serb announced that he would still compete and subsequently went to Valencia where he helped his team to force Spain into an early exit from the tournament.
However, it now seems as though the 36-year-old is ensuring he doesn’t overwork himself mentally or physically and has chosen to miss the Shanghai Masters despite it being an ATP 1000 event attended by many top-ranked players.
