Due to a heightened threat of attack, the Niger junta has told its military forces to be on high alert.
This was said in an internal report released by the nation’s military commander on Friday, which a security source in the nation verified was accurate.
The order to be on maximum alert would enable forces to respond effectively in case of any attack and “avoid a general surprise,” according to Reuters, who obtained a copy of the paper that was posted online on Saturday.
“Threats of aggression to the national territory are increasingly being felt,” it said.
Omar Touray, the president of the Economic Community of West African States Commission, stated on Friday that neither a war declaration nor an invasion plot had been made against the people of the Niger Republic.
Touray made it clear that the ECOWAS would use all available tools, including standby force, to bring back civil rule in the Niger Republic.
