There has been a barrage of verbal and cyber assaults on Nigerians who didn’t try to celebrate the visa ban lifted on Nigeria by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Different lines such as “you are Nigeria’s enemy” or “you are not patriotic” rented the social media space as many Nigerians were on the rampage seeking applause for the president from all quarters on the visa ban reversal.
This move can be interpreted as a bold move by a pro-government section of Nigerians; majorly supporters of the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC) who are trying to overturn the unpopularity of the sitting president of Nigeria, having secured less than 50% of the votes at the February polls.
Many Nigerians who are not supporters of the government have stressed that the visa ban is a positive, but not a direct concern to an average Nigerian who’s currently battling with biting standards of living— a point that quelled some criticisms being hurled at them.
Others refused hailing the 71-year-old president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu whose social media supporters have been working day and night to enlighten the public about his policies and achievements— a step which motivated majorly the supporters of the chief opposition party, the Labour Party to hit back at them with the missteps of the ruling party in the last eight years.
