A Nigerian athlete, Favour Ashe, has been arrested by the police in Alabama, USA over multiple counts of th£ft and fr@ud.
The 21-year-old was arrested on Tuesday, February 6, at his home in Alabama, Auburn Police said in a statement on Thursday.
Favour, who represented Nigeria at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where he won a bronze medal alongside three other Nigerians in the 4×100m relay, recently transferred from the University of Tennessee to Auburn University, Alabama, whom he has been representing in the NCAA.
However, Ashe has been charged with four counts of fr@udulent use of a debit/credit card and two counts of theft of property, third degree.
“The arrest stems from Auburn Police receiving a th£ft report on Feb. 4, 2024. A victim reported that multiple items were st%len from a purse near the 100 block of West Magnolia Avenue. A credit card was among the items st%len, and the victim discovered several fraudulent charges were made using the st%len card.
Favour Oghene Tejiri Ashe was developed as a suspect, and after further investigation arrest warrants were obtained. Ashe turned himself in to Auburn Police on Feb. 6, and he was arrested in obedience to the warrants.
“Ashe was transported to the Lee County Jail and held on a $9,000 bond,” the statement reads.
