Chiagozie Nwobodo, 6, had been saved by a group called the Save and Secure the Child Initiative, the Campaign against Child Abuse in Nigeria, from the hands of her father, who admitted to beating her with a matchet and inflicting heavy wounds as a result of the matchet cuts, resulting in multiple sores all over the girl’s body as well as a broken leg.
After being turned over to the police by the members of the Ezinifite Vigilante Group, Hyginus Nwabodo, 44, a native of Ezinifite in the Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, confessed to the horrible crime.
He claimed that because of her daughter’s destructive personality, he had allowed such horrible things to be done to her.
He also claimed that his six-year-old daughter was destroying his doors and walls with matchet and metals. While the father moved to blaming the devil for his terrible behaviour against her, the daughter denied all of the claims.
Speaking on the incident, Rotarian Kingsley Obi, the Anambra State Principal of the Save and Secure the Child project, stated that the whole incident was condemned and that the suspect would be brought before the juvenile court set up by the Anambra State Government.
He added that, in the three years since the “Save and Secure the Child initiative” was introduced, they had never heard of a girl receiving such severe abuse and wickedness from her own biological father.
He went on to say that the act was “both the depth and apogee of a father’s wickedness to his daughter.”
Rotarian Obi also cautioned the public to abstain from actions that would threaten the lives of their children, stating that no type of a child’s misbehaviour should result in such abuse and mistreatment.
