The Lagos State Safety Commission has criticised the rising use of drugs and weapons in nightclubs in Lagos and promised to close any establishment found doing so going forward.
Mr. Lanre Mojola, Director-General (DG) of the Commission, told night club owners during a meeting that the state government has zero tolerance for the use of narcotics and weapons in nightclubs and will thereafter close down any such establishments.
Representatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) were also present at the meeting.
Mojola condemned the growth of hard drugs and weapons in various nightclubs in Lagos and promised to work with the appropriate authorities to put a stop to it.
“The purpose of this meeting is to address certain concerns that have come to our attention this includes the usage of drugs, the use of firearms and other safety issues that have become a major cause of concern for the Lagos State Government”
“On the issue of firearms in clubs, last year we had an incident with a superstar, we are also aware of a shooting accident that happened at a club recently and these gives us serious concerns and we need to tell ourselves the truth. There should be scanners that can detect firearms and other weapons. Of what use are your security operatives?”, Mojola said.
