A landslide early Friday at a hillside tourist campground in Malaysia left 16 people dead, with 17 others feared buried at the site on an organic farm outside the capital of Kuala Lumpur, authorities said.
An estimated 94 Malaysians were sleeping at the campsite in Batang Kali in central Selangor state, about 30 miles north of Kuala Lumpur, when the disaster occurred, said district police chief Suffian Abdullah.
Authorities told local media that the landowners did not have a license to run a campground. At least seven people were hospitalized and dozens more were rescued unharmed, said district police chief Suffian Abdullah.
