A ransom of N50 million is being sought by alleged gunmen who kidnapped Christian worshippers in Ondo State.
Out of the twenty-five worshippers fromthe Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Igan, Akure, who were abducted, eight have been freed.
A regional superintendent of CAC in Akure’s Odubanjo regional headquarters, Benjamin Akanmu, verified the ransom demand.
Using a victim’s smartphone as a means of communication, a gunman spoke with Mr. Akanmu and demanded that the N50 million ransom be paid right away.
Despite media rumours that 25 worshippers had been abducted, the kidnappers only took twenty people—mostly choir members.
The worshippers were supposed to return to Akure on Saturday after departing for a funeral on Friday.
Their bus, nevertheless, was discovered stranded by the side of the road.
