A man sent to deliver the ransom to the kidnappers of Mrs. Bola Ajiboye, the wife of Pastor Johnson Ajiboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Kwara State, has been detained by the kidnappers.
However, they let the woman go.
Last Thursday, when armed men entered the town of Elerinjare in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Mrs. Ajiboye was abducted while working in her shop.
According to sources, the woman was freed by her kidnappers on Wednesday after they received the N1 million ransom payment along with the food and other demands made by the kidnappers.
However, a neighbourhood elder claimed that the middle-aged man who went to the kidnappers to deliver the money was kidnapped.
A community elder lamented about the new task of raising the sum of N5 million for the kidnappers after they held the messenger for ransom.
“We are sad in Elerinjare community because of the news emanating from our town. Our people now live in fear because of the recent kidnapping. Elerinjare is a journey of 45 minutes to Ilorin; I have been invited to attend a meeting at home on how we are going to raise money for the release of the man who went to deliver the ransom for the release of the pastor’s wife. But I have a fear of how to get to the town. The kidnappers are demanding the sum of N5m as ransom from the community; how do we raise such an amount now?”, he said.
On Thursday night about nine o’clock, Mrs. Ajiboye was taken from her shop.
One of her kids luckily managed to escape during the operation at her home while a man apparently suffered gunshot wounds from the kidnappers.
SP Okasanmi Ajayi, the state police command’s spokesman, claimed he hadn’t yet been informed of the situation at the time of filing this report.
