Prosecutors have asked a military court in Burkina Faso’s capital, Ouagadougou to pronounce 30-years jail term against former President, Blaise Campaore for the death of revolutionary leader, Thomas Sankara in 1987.
The prosecutors told the court to slap Campaore with charges including, “attack on state security”, “concealment of a corpse” and “complicity in a murder”. He is currently not living in Burkina Faso but the court is trying him in absentia.
Apart from Campaore, the lawyers are also demanding 30 years jail term for Hyacinthe Kafando, who was the commander of the former president’s presidential guard. Additionally, the prosecutors want Gilbert Diendere, the army commander during the coup which toppled Sankara’s government to also be jailed for 20-years.
