There is a norm in so many military checkpoints in Nigeria. In this culture whose origin is unknown, motorcycle users must stop and their passengers must come down, and trek past the military checkpoints.
This concerned a Nigerian doctor, and he wondered aloud if it was constitutional for such to be happening.
“Which part of the Nigerian constitution is it written that you if you are on motorbike, you must come down and trek at military checkpoints?”, Dr Penking asked.

Twitter users shared their views and experiences on this issue.”Not just motorbike, even when you are inside a public bus, I’ve experienced it like four times when I’m travelling. So annoying”, a netizen said.
Others alleged that it’s part of safety precautions made by soldiers to keep themselves safe.
“It’s not in any constitution, is because of crime rate by most bikers and the way they speed, cars also slow down for check..the soldiers are human too they need to safe their lives”, another said.
Stopping to come down at checkpoints is normal, but it has been associated with some ugly cases, like in Oyo state where a farmer, Raheem was shot while walking past a checkpoint, after alighting from his motorcycle.
