The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has initiated the retirement of four of its directors in adherence to the eight-year tenure policy for directors in the public service. The announcement was made by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC.
While the statement did not disclose the names of the affected directors, it indicated that two served as Heads of Departments at the Commission headquarters in Abuja, and the other two served as Administrative Secretaries in various states. The retirement directive aligns with the Federal Government Circular HSCF/SPSO/268/T3/2/37 issued on July 27, 2023.
Olumekun clarified that the retirement policy exempts individuals in the medical cadre, specifically Clinical Officers, as outlined in Circular MH. 7205/T/31 dated September 7, 2023. The affected directors are expected to proceed on terminal leave in line with the retirement directive.
The implementation of this policy reflects the commitment to adhering to established guidelines and ensuring periodic changes within the leadership structure of public institutions.
