No less than 35 communities in Ogun State’s Adoodo-Ota Local Government Area in the Ajumose Area Community Development Association have expressed concern about impending floods as a result of the area’s recent river overflow, which has blocked the road route.
Residents of the community bemoaned the fact that their children’s schooling and businesses had been put on hold because of the frequent high floods that always blocked the access road linking the communities to other areas of the state whenever it rained heavily.
Mosafejo, Onjuwan, Toluwalase, Ajumoni, Idera, Ilisa, Oke-Odo, Love and Peace, Island, Liasu Balogun, Itura-Ilisa, and Victory CDA are just a few of the affected communities.
When the road flooded, the community leader, Akinola Adeola, bemoaned the sad state of the community, stating that the lack of schools and medical facilities in the communities frequently prevented residents from accessing healthcare and education.
“Our challenge is the lack of a good road, especially the situation with Mosa River, which often overflows the road. Students are denied access to school, while adults can’t go to their businesses.
“During the rainy season, most people often desert their houses, and we cannot access the health centre because the available one is far from our communities. We sometimes have to gather ourselves as adults to monitor the movement of persons, especially students, to avoid drowning”, Adeola said.
This sad development in Ogun state is one of many in the country, where lack of infrastructural development is a bigger issue as it makes natural phenomena like rainfall look like a disaster, and not a regular occurrence.
