Five people were shot, including a young girl during the Krewe of Bacchus parade in the 1600 block of Terpsichore Sunday night where it intersects with St. Charles Avenue.
The NOPD said that the victims included the young girl, a woman and three men, who were all transported to the hospital. One of the victims is critical, according to NOPD Chief Deputy Hans Ganthier. He did not specify which victim was critical.
It was gathered that the shooting happened along the parade route around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of St. Charles and Terpsichore streets. The parade was halted for a short time.
Three males and two females were injured in the shooting, police said. One of the victims was a young girl. All five victims were rushed to a local hospital where one is in critical condition and four are stable.
The Krewe of Bacchus parade, which is an annual Mardi Gras tradition, was temporarily halted as police roped off part of the area and canvassed for evidence.
Police said two guns were recovered from the scene after the suspect was detained.
