Nigerian ambassadors, both professional and non-career, have all been called back by President Bola Tinubu.
This was revealed on Saturday by Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, the minister of foreign affairs, via his media assistant Alkasim Abdulkadir.
To staff the country’s diplomatic missions abroad, the former president Muhammadu Buhari selected 42 career ambassadors and 41 non-career ambassadors in July 2020.
The diplomats were sent out after being confirmed by the Senate in accordance with the 1999 Constitution’s section 171(2)(1c) and subsection 4.
“Sequel to the inquiries on the letter recalling the Nigerian ambassador to the UK, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has clarified that all career ambassadors and non-career ambassadors have been recalled on the instructions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Ambassadors as representatives of the country serve at the behest of the President and it’s his prerogative to send or recall them from any country”, the recall statement read.
