At least six people died and many remained trapped under collapsed buildings after southern Turkey and northern Syria were rocked by a powerful earthquake Monday, just two weeks after the region was struck by one of the most devastating temblors in more than a decade that resulted in the deaths of nearly 47,000 people.
Three minutes apart and measuring 6.4 and 5.8 in magnitude, two earthquakes shook southern Turkey on Monday evening, according to Turkey’s disaster management agency AFAD.
The epicentre was in the district of Samandağ in Turkey’s Hatay province, according to the Turkish observatory Kandilli.
But it is felt by residents in Syria, Israel, Iraq, Lebanon, and the Palestinian Territories.
