Air Peace left its passengers travelling from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Abuja and Lagos stranded on Wednesday after failing to communicate that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) strike which commenced on the same day would affect their flights.
it was learnt that many passengers only became aware of the NiMet strike and its impact on Air Peace’s operations upon arriving at the airport.
A few foreign carriers have also suspended operations to Nigeria because of the danger of inability to get accurate enroute weather report especially at the aerodrome and surrounding areas; and such did not want to take a risk..
The carrier said its decision was necessary because NiMet is the agency responsible for issuing CNH (Current Nowcast of Hazardous Weather) reports, which are critical for safe landings, especially during this season of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
