Nigerian midfielder Quadri Liameed hospitalised after being knocked unconscious by a kick to the head during a Spanish second-division match between Sabadell and Albacete.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury in the 42nd minute of the encounter at the Carlos Belmonte Stadium on Saturday when Albacete forward José Corpas, attempting a volley, struck him in the head as both players challenged for the ball.
A viral video of the incident shows Liameed taking the heavy blow just outside the penalty area before collapsing on the pitch and briefly losing consciousness.
Medical personnel from both clubs immediately rushed to his aid. He was fitted with a neck brace, carried off on a stretcher and transported by ambulance to Hospital Quirón Santa Cristina for medical examinations.
