LASMA officials rescue man trapped in crash after four die on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Four people have been k!lled in a fatal road crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, while emergency responders rescued a man trapped in one of the vehicles.

The crash occurred at about 4 a.m. on Wednesday around Straight Gate School, Ipara Remo, along the expressway.

The accident involved a blue Mitsubishi Canter with registration number FGE 753 XA and an ash-coloured HOWO truck with registration number T-695 KT.

According to preliminary findings by the Federal Road Safety Corps, the crash was caused by speeding and wrongful overtaking, with fatigue also identified as a contributing factor.

The Mitsubishi driver was reportedly travelling at high speed when he attempted to overtake and subsequently rammed into the moving truck.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the FRSC, Chief Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.

Odunsi said eight people were involved in the crash, comprising six males and two females. Four male adults d!ed, one male adult sustained injuries, while three others escaped unhurt.

He said, “The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Sector Command, confirmed a fatal road traffic crash that occurred at about 0400hrs on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, along the Ibadan-Lagos route at Straight Gate.

“Two vehicles were involved in the crash: a blue Mitsubishi Cabstar with registration number FGE 753 XA and an ash-coloured HOWO truck with registration number T-695 KT.
