The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan on Saturday buried 27 Christians killed during a deadly attack on Naridon village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, as grief-stricken families, clergy and residents gathered to pay their final respects. Three other victims had been buried earlier, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths from the attack to at least 30.
According to reports, the attack occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on Sunday when armed attackers invaded the predominantly farming community while residents were asleep. The assailants reportedly opened fire on villagers, set several houses ablaze and abducted an unspecified number of people during the raid.
Video footage from the funeral showed rows of white coffins arranged on red earth as Catholic priests led funeral rites before hundreds of mourners gathered under canopies. The solemn ceremony was marked by prayers, hymns and emotional scenes as relatives struggled to come to terms with the loss of their loved ones.
