Troops respond to kidnap incident in Kogi, recover vehicle

Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation MESA have responded to a kidnap incident along the Ejule–Iboko road in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Security sources told Zagazola that the incident occurred on April 24 at about 6:00 p.m., when troops of 12 Brigade deployed at Iboko checkpoint received information on the activities of suspected kidnappers in the area.

The sources said the troops swiftly mobilised to the scene, where they discovered that the assailants had attacked a vehicle conveying a corpse and abducted the driver along with two other passengers.

According to the sources, the troops recovered the abandoned vehicle at the scene, which has since been handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation.

They added that search and rescue operations are ongoing to locate and safely recover the abducted victims, while efforts have been intensified to track down the perpetrators.

The sources assured that security agencies remain committed to securing major routes and protecting lives and property in the state.
