Army troops arrest three suspects for staged kidnapping, ransom fraud in Jos North Plateau

Troops of Sector 1 under Operation Safe Haven have arrested three suspects for allegedly staging a fake kidnapping and collecting ransom in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources said the suspects were arrested at about 4:36 p.m. on April 4 at Tina Junction in Dutse Uku area following credible intelligence.

The suspects were said to have conspired to fake a kidnapping incident and extorted the sum of ₦200,000 from unsuspecting relatives under false pretences.

According to the sources, the operation was part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on criminal networks exploiting insecurity in the state to defraud members of the public.

The suspects are currently in custody for further investigation, while military authorities said they would be handed over to relevant agencies for prosecution.
