A wave of grief has swept through Ohatekwe Ukawu in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State after a 20-year-old man, Damian Oforbuike, was banished for allegedly k+lling his mother.
The victim, identified as Onyemaechi, was reportedly att@cked with a m+chete over the weekend in a br¥tal incident that left residents in shock. Following the act, the suspect fled into a nearby forest.
Determined to bring him to justice, youths in the community mobilised and tracked him down in his hideout, eventually apprehending him. He was paraded around the area before being banished with a strict warning never to return.
In a viral video recorded during the parade, Oforbuike allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming his actions were triggered by his mother’s refusal to bathe him and her unwillingness to provide money to help his brother, who had completed a barbing apprenticeship, set up a shop.
“I k+lled my mother because she refused to bathe me and also refused to rent a shop for my brother,” he said. The councillor representing the area, Maduabuchi Nweke, confirmed the incident, revealing that over 200 youths were mobilised to comb the forest before the suspect was captured.
