Armed bandits attack immigration officers, abduct one in Niger

Armed bandits on motorcycles from the Republic of Benin axis attacked immigration officers at Baliavillage, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger on Tuesday morning.

Sources said the bandits, heading towards Babana Market, intercepted the officers at an immigration checkpoint around 10:30 a.m.

During the attack, the assailants disarmed the officers, carted away two AK-47 rifles, each loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, and abducted Umar Yusuf, one of the officers.

His colleague, Unisa Shehu, reportedly escaped without his weapon.

Security forces, Local vigilantes and hunters were mobilized to the area, and efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted officer and recover the stolen rifles.
