An Akure Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 17-year old student, Ilesanmi Emmanuel, in a juvenile correctional facility for allegedly striking a 13-year old schoolgirl, Olamide Kadiri, with a metal belt, leaving her with a severe eye injury.

The incident reportedly occurred on February 19, 2026, at about 7:41 a.m. at Mooreb Idea Primary and College in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Emmanuel was arraigned alongside the school proprietor, Mathew Ologunleko, 70; a staff member, Ade Agunbiade, 40, and a class teacher, Anifowose Rebecca, 38, who were accused of negligence.

According to the charge, the teenage defendant allegedly hit the victim with a metal belt during a school event, causing serious injury to her right eye.

The police prosecutor, Martins Olowofeso, told the court that the school authorities failed to properly supervise the students, which allegedly led to the incident.
