Nollywood actress Moyo Lawal has shared a deeply emotional video on Instagram just days before her birthday, opening up about a painful personal experience she says she kept private for a long time.
In the video, the actress revealed that she deliberately avoided interviews and public conversations, choosing instead to grieve quietly with her family and close friends. She explained that she decided to speak out now to correct a narrative that has followed her unfairly and to encourage other women facing similar struggles.
According to Moyo Lawal, several young women had reached out to her, confessing that they were battling mental and emotional breakdowns after experiencing manipulation, threats, and fear in their relationships. She strongly emphasized that the shame does not belong to the victims and is never their fault.
Sharing her own story, the actress disclosed that when she tried to leave a relationship, she was blamed for what happened to her. She was accused of causing it simply because she refused to post her partner on social media. She recalled being told, “If I can’t have you, no one else will,” a statement she described as deeply traumatic and damaging.
Moyo Lawal admitted that for years, she survived by escaping into her movie roles, numbing herself to her real-life pain. However, she said she has now made a conscious decision to “flip the switch” and begin living fully as herself not hiding behind characters, roles, or personas.
Her message has touched many hearts online, serving as a powerful reminder that healing is possible, silence is not strength, and no woman deserves to carry shame that was never hers to begin with. 💔➡️❤️
