The incident occurred on Monday, December 29, when a high-intensity firework, popularly known as a ‘knockout’, detonated unexpectedly near the main stage of the event, sparking panic among revellers.
Eyewitnesses said the explosion happened at the height of the celebrations, sending people scrambling for safety. One of the victims, identified only as Ugochi, reportedly died on the spot, while another was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to injuries.
